Lactic Acid Announcement

Riding in Baker City OR 9/18-9/22/25!
Jim Norman

Looking for a change of cycling scenery? Some of us are going to Baker City, OR next month. The weather is usually still nice, the roads are good, most with very little traffic, pretty scenery and there are climbing rides and flatter rides. We can do 4-5 rides, depending if we ride on departure day. Last year we rode 4 days, 210 miles and about 11,700', in 2023 the mileage was about the same with 9.000' of climbing. Our pace is B group-ish since we are riding multiple days.

Arrive the morning of Thursday the 18th, we will ride that day - plan to roll by 1130. BC is on Pacific time so you gain an hour. Plan to depart Sunday the 21st in the late afternoon after our ride, or stay until Monday the 22nd. We might do a shorter ride on Monday depending on weather and how we feel. If you can't make the whole trip but want to come for the weekend, or just a day or two, that also works.

FYI, here is a link the the 11 rides I've done there over the last three years so you can see the ride profiles. https://ridewithgps.com/collections/5582016

Baker City is just about 2 hours up I-84 from Boise. It's about 1,000' higher, so it's usually a bit cooler. Average mid-Sept high is 75, low is 40, they average 3 days of rain for the month. So pretty good odds of decent riding.

I called the Rodeway Inn Baker City where we typically stay and they have rooms available. It's well situated for starting our rides, there are stores, coffee and restaurants nearby. It's a 2-star motel, clean, we've had good experience there and the manager is friendly. https://maps.app.goo.gl/8Zy6mrApr3unGQxC9 Phone number is 541-523-2242. When you call for a reservation be sure to tell them you're with Lactic Acid Cycling in Boise. Make your room reservation ASAP, as it will increase your chances to get a downstairs room!

We have several riders who know the roads and can help newbies get around. You can ride your own pace and we regroup as needed to avoid anyone getting lost.

Finally, all Lactic Acid Cycling safety protocol will be in place, such as obeying traffic laws, wearing a helmet and no ear obstructions (ear buds, etc.).
